The field was in good shape and both teams had numbers show up for what promised to be a physical affair. The fans weren't dissapointed as the Gargoyles jumped out to a quick 5 goal lead, causing the Roos to re-evaluate their game plan. Ryan Zammit was on fire as it seemed he couldn't miss anything in the first few minutes. We were rolling along when the differential changed and the Roos started to get their act together. Tackling like champions and getting frees all over the ground, the Gargoyles couldn't capitalize on their good fortune and only managed to stay even with the Roos. Daniel Murray and the rest of the back line had their hands full with the big full forward who kicked 4 goals himself. Despite the result, the back line played tremendously while repelling the surging Roos. By the middle of the fourth quarter, it was evident Guelph didn't have the legs to run with their opponents and found themselves 4 goals down at the siren. Final score: Roos 11-12-78 to Guelphs 8-5-53. Great efforts by Matty Bannon, Ryan Zammit, Azza, Zack and many others were only slightly overshadowed by Foxy's run-on efforts from the back line, earning him player of the game and free 'za from Boston Pizza. Enjoy Foxy.
It was a great game, fellas, with many positives coming from it. A new commitment to fitness sees the team only getting better before the match-up against the Blues. Let's keep up the good work. We will shock some teams. May 21, 2008, 5:00 pm Saturdays game against the Roos is at 9:45am at their home ground, Humber South (behind the Humber College campus). It is located at the bottom of Kipling
Ave. and Lakeshore Blvd. in Etobicoke. You can take the 427 to Lakeshore and go east to Kipling Ave. then turn right into Humber College. You can also access Kipling off of the QEW but you have to double back a bit.
Make sure you check the directions on the OAFL website, print them off and bring them with you. Also, make sure you have some cell numbers of coaches and other players in your phones just in case you get lost. May 11, 2008, 7:46 pm The Gargoyles defeated their Highway 6 rivals, the Hamilton Wildcats by a score of 37-27 on Saturday afternoon at Margaret Green Park.
With good numbers (finally!) and the luxury of an interchange, the Gargoyles took advantage of the Wildcats lack of intensity by beating them to the ball, winning desperate contests and pushing the footy forward toward the goals. If the kicking were more accurate, the score could have gone up over a hundred but the goals we kicked and the dozen behinds were enough.
Notable players on the day were Matty Bannon (b.o.g.), Matty Newark in the ruck, and Adam Mills playing hard all day. Actually, there was a good effort from everyone on the ground as we start to gel as a team. Good work boys.
Special thanks to Azza for setting up the post-game bbq with some food and drinks for both teams and supporters. Also, thanks to the Wildcats for supporting us after the game at the brewery where a night of debauchery was witnessed by all that paid admission and a few people driving down Woodlawn Rd.
Of note on the night: golf ball sculling, the boat race that Travis won with his abnormal boa-constricter throat and of course, the marshmallow parade that had everyone shedding their clothes and running like little girls. Ed suffered the first injury of the year and you don't want to know how he did it!
Again, great job by everyone and see you at training. Next up, the Roos. Apr 27, 2008, 7:29 am Well, the first Inter-squad match of the year is out of the way with the white team completely destroying the dark team by a score of ... who's kidding who, we didn't keep score, but everyone got a touch of the footy with the new guys learning a few things about the game. Afterwards, Matty was gracious enough to provide his house for "beer and video training" (thanks Tam) and the rules of the game were explained in confusing detail until eyes started to glaze over. Well done boys.
Keep your eyes on the website and your e-mail as we decide if the weather is fit enough to train on Tuesday night.

The team managed to raise in excess of $1500.00 for this worthy cause.
