Australian Recruiting 2011Every year the Guelph Gargoyles have a group of Australian players come and play for the team. These players add to the resident Australians who play for the team each year. The club helps new players with the search for accomodation, work visas, transport to/from games and training and so on. We also help out in the search for work wherever possible - jobs are plentiful in the area. You are bound to meet a bunch of guys that you make mates with for life. The Canadians playing on our team are extremely passionate about footy and quite a few of them are extremely well skilled guys who have played for up to 10 years. They look forward to learning new skills and so on from our Aussie recruits each year so whilst it is a great way to see the world and experience a new place playing footy in Canada also provides the opportunity for you to grow the game here in Canada with your personal input.

Each year on Canada Day (July 1st) a match takes place between Team Canada and Australia. It is a great way for Australians travelling here to actually play for your country and represent it in this great game we all love. You will be playing against some of your team mates from Guelph who represent Canada in likely the best level of football played outside of Australia. There are some stories below from some players who have played for us in previous years. We will be updating this over the course of the next few months with stories from our current crop of Australians who are having a ball here in 2010. The club itself is a closely knit one with a great sense of pride but we also have a great time socially and have many events through the year at our sponsor pub and brewery that are well attended and great fun.
If you are thinking about maybe playing footy in Canada for a year or more email us at executive@guelphgargoylesafc.com and let us know your playing experience, usual position and we'll get in contact with you to let you know what we can do to make you a Gargoyle.
There really is no better club to come and play for in Canada. Guelph and the Kitchener/Waterloo area where we are based has a great party scene with 3 Universities located in the area and they happen to be the 3 with the best girl/guy ratio in the country so you can't go wrong making the Guelph Gargoyles your new home in Canada.
(1) For those of you thinking about travelling to Canada or you Canadians looking to try Aussie rules footy, the Guelph Gargoyles Aussie rules football club was my home away from Australia. The club is going from strength to strength under the guidance of some really good blokes. If you're single,(or even if you're not!), wanting to travel, while having a base to work from, the guys at the Gargoyles will set you up. Whether it be a place to live, a job or just partying and meeting new people, these boys do it all.
I spent 2 1/2 years with the Club, and it was a sad day for me when I left. Everyone in the Gargoyles are great mate's of mine and if you give them a chance they will be your's as well. Being a University town there are a lot of places to party, and more single 'hot chicks' than I have seen in any other place in Ontario. The football team is getting better and better and boy what a social club they have. Compares to a lot of Clubs back in Aus.. They play under the Brisbane Lions colours and have their very own ground, so head on over to Canada and try it out with the Guelph Gargoyles you won't regret it!

(2) To anyone thinking of going to Canada and playing footy with the gargoyles then I would say to do it! I was there for one season and it was the best year of my life. All the guys are really friendly and they really know how to party. There is no shortage of people to show you a good time. The football is of a good standard and the gargoyles are run by a great bunch of people.
The Gargoyles arranged accommodation for my cousin and myself and work at the Wellington Brewery. We also got to do a lot of travel from Guelph , including America and also over to Europe because the flights are so cheap. Guelph is also close to Niagara Falls so it is worth a visit. Guelph is a big university town, so that means heaps of girls and heaps of places to party. They have night clubs that are open every night of the week; you can also catch the different sports such as: baseball, basketball, and ice hockey which is very good to watch over a couple of pints and wings. My time in Guelph was one of the best times in my life so much fun I can't wait to return in the future. I made so many friends that I will have for a life time. Bradley Vagg For any one in Australia thinking about going over you can give me call and we can have a chat. Home: 03 52592803 Mobile : 0437564376
