Australian Football 101

Australian Football isn't Rugby although often mistaken for it as Rugby is popular in Australia as well.  The game originated in Australia as a game to keep cricket players fit during the Winter "off" season.  It's the largest spectator and participant sport in Australia and is played all across the nation.  Australian Football or Aussie Rules as it is commonly called  is the national sport of Australia.  The game is played around the world and is increasing in popularity away from it's Australian base.  It is fast paced, high scoring and exciting to watch and play.  The game is played on a large oval field and involves various disciplines like running, kicking, catching, bouncing the ball and tackling.  It is a contact sport but looks rougher than it actually is.  Many players continue into their 30's and even 40's.  Our FAQ section has some great information for those interested in learning a little more.
